AI risk analysis

Summary
A buffer overflow in MariaDB's CONNECT engine allows authenticated users to write one byte past a stack buffer boundary, potentially leading to denial of service or remote code execution. This affects versions from 10.6.1 through 10.6.27, 10.11.18, 11.4.12, 11.8.8, 12.3.2, and 13.0.1.
Exploitability
Exploitation requires an authenticated user with access to the CONNECT engine, which is moderately difficult but possible given that the CONNECT engine is enabled by default in many MariaDB installations.
Blast radius
The vulnerability could affect a significant portion of MariaDB installations that use the CONNECT engine, potentially leading to widespread service disruption or unauthorized code execution on affected systems.
Detection
No reliable host or network indicator is derivable from the published description.
Prioritized remediation
Upgrade to MariaDB 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, or 13.0.2 immediately.

NVD description

MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. From 10.6.1 until 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2, the CONNECT engine's DOS table type used an incorrect boundary check that permitted a one-byte null write beyond a stack buffer at an attacker-controlled offset. An authenticated user able to use the CONNECT engine could cause a crash and potentially remote code execution. This issue is fixed in versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.
