CVE-2026-107818
8.4 HIGHpublic exploit availablePublished 2026-10-09 · Updated 2026-10-14
AI risk analysis
- Summary
- MariaDB service configuration flaw allows attackers with FILE privilege to inject environment variables into the restarted service, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or privilege escalation. This affects versions from 10.6.1 through 10.6.27, 10.11.18, 11.4.12, 11.8.8, 12.3.2, and 13.0.1.
- Exploitability
- Exploitation requires a database user with FILE privilege who can write to /run/mysqld directory, making it moderately difficult but possible with proper access.
- Blast radius
- If exploited, this flaw could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code as the MariaDB service account, potentially leading to full database server compromise and lateral movement within the infrastructure.
- Detection
- Monitor for creation of /run/mysqld/wsrep-new-cluster files by database users, and watch for unexpected service restarts or environment variable changes in MariaDB process startup logs.
- Prioritized remediation
- Upgrade to MariaDB 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, or 13.0.2 immediately.

NVD description
MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. From 10.6.1 until 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2, the mariadb.service unit used /run/mysqld/wsrep-new-cluster during the next service restart. A database user with FILE privilege and a secure-file-priv configuration permitting writes to /run/mysqld could create that file and inject attacker-controlled environment values into the restarted service. This issue is fixed in versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.
