AI risk analysis

Summary
OpenCATS allows authenticated users with import privileges to upload PHP files that can be executed by the web server, leading to remote code execution and potential data exposure or modification. This vulnerability affects versions prior to 0.10.0.
Exploitability
Exploitation is relatively straightforward for authenticated users with import privileges, requiring only a single file upload and an import error to leave the malicious PHP file on disk in the web-accessible temporary directory.
Blast radius
The impact could be significant as attackers could execute arbitrary code with web server privileges, potentially exposing sensitive recruiting data, modifying candidate records, or compromising the entire host system.
Detection
Monitor for PHP files being uploaded to the temporary directory and executed via HTTP requests, particularly looking for unusual file extensions in web server logs or filesystem monitoring for PHP files in the import temporary directory.
Prioritized remediation
Upgrade to version 0.10.0 or later to fix this vulnerability.

NVD description

OpenCATS is an open-source applicant tracking system and recruitment CRM for staffing agencies and hiring teams. Prior to 0.10.0, the OpenCATS Import module in modules/import/ImportUI.php can preserve an uploaded file's original name for one import data type and place the file in the web-accessible temporary directory. An authenticated user with Import privileges can select the affected import path and upload a PHP file that remains under an attacker-controlled executable filename, and an import error can leave the file on disk. If the temporary directory is served with PHP execution enabled, requesting the staged file can execute arbitrary PHP code with the web server process privileges, exposing or modifying recruiting data and the host system. This issue is fixed in version 0.10.0.
