8.8 HIGHpublic exploit available

Published 2026-09-22 · Updated 2026-09-24

AI risk analysis

Summary
This vulnerability allows authenticated non-guest users to execute arbitrary code by exploiting Java deserialization in the HTTP invoker endpoint, leading to remote code execution.
Exploitability
Exploitation requires an authenticated non-guest user and knowledge of the specific Java deserialization payload. The attacker must bypass the class-name denylist enforced by PluginAwareObjectInputStream.
Blast radius
If exploited, the impact is high, as it allows for full control over the system, potentially leading to data loss, system compromise, and further attacks.
Detection
No reliable host or network indicator is derivable from the published description.
Prioritized remediation
Upgrade to openEQUELLA 2026.1.0 or later.

NVD description

openEQUELLA before 2026.1.0 contains an authenticated remote code execution vulnerability that allows any authenticated non-guest user to execute arbitrary code by exploiting Java deserialization in the HTTP invoker endpoint at /invoker/*. Attackers can bypass the class-name denylist enforced by PluginAwareObjectInputStream by nesting a serialized payload inside a java.security.SignedObject, causing the inner stream to be deserialized by a separate ObjectInputStream that does not apply the denylist, ultimately reaching a JNDI sink and enabling code execution.
