CVE-2026-97668
9.8 CRITICALPublished 2026-10-14 · Updated 2026-10-15
AI risk analysis
- Summary
- The Abandoned Cart Pro plugin has a SQL injection vulnerability in its update_guest_persistent_cart() function that allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious SQL into UPDATE statements targeting the wp_usermeta table, potentially extracting data and escalating privileges to administrator level.
- Exploitability
- Exploitation is relatively straightforward as it requires no authentication and leverages user-supplied checkout fields that bypass normal input sanitization, with the attacker needing only to submit specific data through the cart functionality.
- Blast radius
- The vulnerability affects all installations up to version 10.8.0, potentially allowing attackers to gain full administrative control over WordPress sites using this plugin, which could lead to complete compromise of affected websites and their user data.
- Detection
- Monitor for unusual UPDATE queries against wp_usermeta table with time-based SQL injection patterns, particularly those involving guest cart data from checkout fields, and watch for suspicious usermeta updates that could indicate privilege escalation attempts.
- Prioritized remediation
- Upgrade to version 10.8.1 or later immediately, as this is the first fixed release addressing the SQL injection vulnerability in the Abandoned Cart Pro plugin.

NVD description
The Abandoned Cart Pro for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to SQL Injection via the guest cart persistent meta_value in all versions up to, and including, 10.8.0 due to insufficient escaping on user supplied data and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query in the update_guest_persistent_cart() function. The abandoned_cart_info value, populated from attacker-controlled checkout fields such as the SMS consent field, is passed through stripslashes() and concatenated directly into an UPDATE statement while the adjacent SELECT and INSERT use prepared statements. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to append additional SQL to the query. Because the sink is an UPDATE ... SET on the wp_usermeta table, the injection can both extract sensitive information from the database via time-based blind techniques and modify usermeta rows; it has been demonstrated to escalate an arbitrary account to administrator by writing a wp_capabilities row that shadows the legitimate one.
